Lina Velandia and David Vélez are two artists from Colombia, South America visiting Huddersfield who captured their views of this Northern English town on a series of drawing and photographs. The drawings of Lina depict her first days in Huddersfield when she was new to the town and most of her interaction with her surrounding occurred through observation and contemplation. In this process she noticed a big presence of senior citizens in places like pubs, public transportation and supermarkets, which prompted a number of questions about their memories and about the Huddersfield of old, which she tries to articulate through these portraits. Some of the portraits are made based on people who Lina actually met like Paul a construction worker who helped when she moved in to her house. The photographs of David explore the boundaries between urban and rural areas in Lockwood and Armitage Bridge where discarded and obsolete objects become important elements of the landscape and everyday life adding a component of “colour warmth” to the cold tonalities that prevail in the architecture and nature of this part of Huddersfield.
